CEP-820 Reflection
Final Thoughts
When I registered for CEP 820 I thought (wow cool) I was going to be able to put my whole class online. When the class began Michelle told us there was not enough time in the semester to complete a whole class. We would work on only one module. I thought to myself how could there be that much work involved. Haha I found out there is a lot more thinking, organizing, researching then I even imagined. Although I have taken a lot of online classes I still wasn’t aware of the amount of work that is is put into designing a class.
One of the most difficult decisions I had to make was what CMS I wanted to use for my class. I went from wanting to use Moodle to Edline and ended up using Weebly. I am happy with Weebly I am comfortable and feel it is easy to work with. This is a very important decision to make right at the beginning of this course. I wanted my course to be easy to navigate so the student did not feel overwhelmed by the CMS and not be able to focus on what they were going to learn about.
I found Quality Matters rubric helpful while designing my module along with the class lectures and labs. The UDL guide was very useful. I thought that it was great how it was laid out and also gave you links to tools that you can use for that situation. I felt I needed something to reference back to make sure I was on the right track and this made it much easier for me. I felt the class was outlined nicely and easy to follow.
My best suggestion would be look over the UDL guidelines, the rubrics and use them for a reference and check out the tools available they list different option, age appropriate, and free tools. Make sure you are targeting all types of learners when you are designing your module. Remember you will always need to make revisions to your class, it is a ongoing process and there is always room for improvement.
